The North-East India: A living tapestry of Life

Home to an astonishing 300 species of mammals, 977 species of birds, 176 reptiles, and 105 amphibians, North-East India is one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet. Its wild beauty is protected across 28 National Parks, 8 Tiger Reserves, 10 Elephant Reserves, 70 Wildlife Sanctuaries, 3 Biosphere Reserves, 4 RAMSAR Wetland Sites, 40 Important Bird Areas (IBAs), and 9 Biodiversity Heritage Sites, including 3 Natural World Heritage Sites. This is a land where the charismatic greater one-horned rhinoceros still roams free, where the clouded leopard slips silently through the shadows, and where the haunting call of the hoolock gibbon echoes through ancient forests. With the highest density of Bengal tigers in the world, and rare species like the Eastern swamp deer, Asiatic elephant, and red panda, the region remains one of the last true wildernesses—raw, resilient, and deeply sacred.
